the seat box. They are also rattle free, and do not need any re-adjustments to
take up any slack. The both raise the seat by 30mm. I'm not sure about the
off-sets of the Sportscraft being enough to rotate the drivers seat fully
without touching the wheel as I've not had any feedback on this, I know the FASP
ones won't. Thinking about this, we have certainly sold less snap-off kits since
we've been selling the Sportscraft units, though this may be just coincidence.

without the CCK. To establish this, I need the measurement from the top of the

The end of the air line tubing must be cut square and clean to
avoid burrs in the connection to the air fittings. The pushto-connect
fittings require square cut to properly seal. The tubing can
be removed from the fitting by first releasing the air
pressure from the air spring. Push the collar on the fitting
toward the body of the fitting. While holding the collar in,
pull out the tubing. Cut the tubing squarely and push the

	<theme>Dear Steve & Cathy,

Air Assisted Suspension

You certainly deserve to do business with all the work you put into your web site.

On Tuesday morning my order placed on Saturday was delivered. The goods were well packed and received in perfect condition with all the necessary fittings.

During the afternoon the weather was kind and enabled me to complete the installation. I must say your instructions and photographs were excellent. The gauge was placed just inside the cab door like you found to be the best place. The only addition was a 5mm spacer placed behind the gauge to bring it forward enabling ease when inflating.

I only had a wheel jack and used it to raise one side of the vehicle but not lifting the tyre off the floor. This was sufficient to remove the bump stops and leave enough space for the bellows which were placed without working under the vehicle but just holding the fitting in one hand and working in front of the wheel on the side of the vehicle. The one side was inflated and the procedure repeated for the other side.

The reason for buying the system was to make the vehicle more stable at speed. I did a test run and it was very stable at 70mph. My Hymer has a 2.8 Fiat engine which enables overtaking of the HGVs which mainly travel at 60mph, but I felt that there was a need for more positive steering which seems to have been achieved.

Best regards,

John Robinson

Very sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
We've been trying to clear the decks and get a few days away over
Easter.

Thank you for your kind words, its very much
appreciated.

I hadn't realised who you were (as in the webmaster
for www.motorhome.me.uk), so at least you
now know we try very hard to give everyone a high level of customer
care.

We've tried to make the kit as comprehensive as
possible, and with instructions most DIY people can understand. Having said
that, we do get a couple of customers who clearly have never undertaken anything
like this before. But we have successfully managed to walk them through their
difficulties either on the phone or extra pictures via email. You mentioned the
use of a spacer. I do agree in some cases a spacer would help, but have yet to
find anything which most customers will find acceptable and looks the part.
Luckily most inflators fit the tyre valve without any problems. We are
continually looking to improve the valve/gauge kit, so its basically still under
development.

You mentioned a test drive at speed. If I know I'm
going to be doing a lot of motorway work, I increase the pressure to around
60psi, then lower it again for pottering about. When out and about I use a cheap
12 volt compressor as it doesn't take long to pump the system up due to the
small capacity in comparison to a vehicle tyre. Quite often people want to order
one of our compressors, but I do point out to them they're better off with a
cheapo for the amount of use they'll have out of it. I'd rather a customer go
away happy, rather than make more profit and have a grumpy customer spreading a
bad word!.

If you do want any additional information, please don't hesitate to get in
touch.

Kind regards

Before proceeding any further, I need to know if your vehicle has already

the leaf spring as shown in the photos below.

If your chassis has not got the above, there won't be enough room for the
Airide, so will need one fitting.

air to the air springs to raise or lower the rear end of the vehicle. Although

changes are done at your own risk.

	<theme>Hi,

I have just purchased a 1988 Ford Transit based CI coachbuilt motorhome. On inspecting the suspension I discovered it has been fitted with air suspension bellows to the rear axle, however they are deflated and there is no means to re-inflate them. There is no compressor or other parts of the system.

I wish to reinstate the air suspension, assuming the bellows are ok can you advise me what missing parts will be required and the costs, plus the costs to install a complete basic manual supplementary air suspension system to the rear axle.

find some inflator fittings which you can attach a standard tyre inflation

<theme>Hi. I've had a quick look at FAQ's but I can't find quite the right answer.
I've just fitted a split charger relay to my camper, and I'm confused!
The wiring diagram showed one wire to the main battery, one to the leisure battery, one to the coil and one to earth. But after running the 12v fridge for a day off the leisure battery it killed it (the leisure battery that is). I thought that driving the van would charge it up again but it didn't!
Someone told me that it should not be wired to the coil but wired to the alternator (which makes sense). I'm just suprised that the supplier of my split charger could be so wrong.
I've had a look on your wiring diagram but that seems to talk about going to both the coil and the alternator.
Could you please advise me as I want to rip it all out and throw it in the bin!!

You'll find various circuits for split charge circuits here - http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/circuits.php

You mention a coil, now is that the magnetic coil of the relay, or your
high voltage ignition coil?

The split charge relay circuit basically connects your starter battery to
your second battery when your alternator starts producing power. The switch
contact of the relay are what are used to join the batteries, then the coil of
the relay is wired from the positive terminal of the battery on one side of the
coil, the other side is then connected to the alternator side of your charge
indicator light on the dash.

To check the above circuit, to see if its working. Disconnect the link
cable off the second battery and connect a 12volt lamp to it, and the other side
of the lamp connected to earth or the negative terminal of the battery. With
this done, start your engine and the lamp should light up, if not you have a
wiring problem or the relay is not being activated.

If your looking for a more efficient charging system use a split charge
diode (second drawing down on the above linked page). Its far more reliable than
any cheap relay.

<theme>I am converting my van at present and I have come accross the Sterling products (via the SBMCC forum) as a good sounding alternative to a standard split charge relay.
My power usage will be modest but as we are planning a long trip with long stays in various destinations and don't want to be reliant on hook-up or having to drive long distances to charge leisure battery bank (2 x 12v 110ah lead-acid).
During driving we need the alternator to charge the Liesure batteries (LBs) as well as run the three way fridge at 12v. Also I am fitting a 75W solar panel with a charge regulator, this will be charging the LBs during daylight.
My queries are - will a Sterling 50A (amps in) battery to battery charger (order code MLE00171) be suitable to charge my LBs? Can this also be used rather than a seperate split charge relay for the fridge power whilst driving? Will the input to the LBs from the solar panel have any impact on the functioning of Sterling B2Bs operation?
</theme>

You will find various circuits here - http://marcleleisure.co.uk/store/circuits.php

The 50A B2B unit is a very good route to follow for your project, then you
can also add further sources of power later on (solar panel with charge
regulator). This can be connected direct to the house batteries. Whilst the
engine is running, it may be best to divert the solar panel power to the starter
battery, as it may fool the B2B unit in to thinking the house battery is
charged, then drop off the rate of charge.

Regarding the fridge, this can be connected direct to the house battery and
not use any additional relays.

Our shower trays can be used in domestic situations, however unlike shower trays from the usual DIY stores, ours do need a support structure making under the tray to support it. This can be done with a wooden frame, then bonded in place with some expanding foam. Don't go crazy with the foam, do a bit at a time as if you do too much,, it will push everything out of shape and probably get everywhere!

<theme>I enquired about a split charge diode for a 91 volkswagon caravelle/transporter short wheelbase a friend is trying to convert, He tells me that he believes the alternator is 85amps.

Would the 70amp diode suffice ,the only power req from the leisure battery is a rooflight and small water pump to sink.

Also what does 1 in 2 out or 1 in 3 out mean.

He is becoming a slight pain in the butt, so I would like to identify the right diode and get it fitted soon as possible.

So once again thanks for your help hope you can identify the right one for me to order.

</theme>

If the alternator is 85 amp, he really should use a
90 amp diode as the diode carries the maximum current not only to the additional
battery, but also to the starter battery. Although the alternator doesn't
produce 85 amps all the time, any short periods of over current can damage a
smaller rated diode.

The 1 in 2 out is how it would be wired. So 1 in 2
out would be one alternator with two batteries (isolated from one another). A 2
in 3 out would be used where you have two alternators (two engines on a boat)
feeding up to three isolated battery banks. So a 1 in 3 out is one alternator
with three isolated battery banks.

If you fit a 1 in 2 out and disconnect one battery
bank, do ensure the 'flying' battery lead from the diode is insulated to prevent
it touching anything. It will be dead when the engine is not running, but you'll
have sparks everywhere if left flopping around when the engine is
running.

When it comes to the second battery, fit a tractor

battery.

The only Mercedes model we have a steering wheel kit for, is the sprinter. Before ordering its best to check the diameter of the splined section of your steering column, as it needs to be about 21.5mm. This kit can be found here - http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/steering-wheel-mercedes-sprinter-p-504.html?cPath=50

For other vehicles, if you know what car steering wheels fit your vehicle, we can sometimes cross-reference it, thus enabling us to possible obtain a suitable hub adaptor for your vehicle.

<theme>I have a twin battery system with a split charge diode already fitted. Because of the voltage drop across the diode the batteries are not being charged fully I need a management system. however i am concerned about the rewiring of the alternator required.........how easy is this, how many wires etc, do I need to. What connections are required to the alternator? The alternator is standard for the car model (but uprated) for the model with a 3-pin connection

What system would you recommend?

Make: Land Rover
Model: 90
Year: 1987
Conversion: n/a
Axle Shape: Round Rear Axle
No. Wheels: Single Rear Wheels
Bump stop shape & Fixing: Two bolts
Body: Standard Van Body
Brakes: My Vehicle Has NO ABS Brakes
Springs: My Vehicle Has COIL Springs On The Rear Axle</theme>

You basically have two options.

1. Retaining your split charge diode you could modify your alternator to use a
smart regulator like this;

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/digital-advanced-alternator-regulator-p-422.html
or this

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/prodigital-advanced-alternator-regulator-p-424.html
These would be wired as shown here

I have installed the above system, but not on a Lucus alternator, which I
expect is what you have. This project can be seen here -

http://www.soh.me.uk/newvanpage18.htm

2. Remove the split charge diode and restore the main cable from the
alternator back to the original battery, and use a battery to battery charger
detailed here -

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/battery-battery-charger-volt-volt-p-342.html
and wired as shown here (but without the mains battery charger).

For simplicity and reliability I'd run with method number two, but on a cost
basis run with method one.

The above circuits can be seen in full here -

Thanking you for your time

Fitting a semi air suspension kit to the rear of your vehicle, will help
the ride quality. From your description, I expect the rear of the van is already
riding on the bump stops, hence the harsh ride your experiencing.

There are two kits available for your vehicle. The first is made by
Firestone (The tyre people) and the second is made by Airide, though they use
Firestone air springs. The Airide air springs are slightly larger diameter than
the Firestone kit. Though I've been unable to tell the difference in ride, I expect the
larger air springs could give a slightly softer ride due to the larger diameter
using slightly less air pressure, but....
<theme>I have recently bought an ex ambulance from someone so that i can convert it to a camper van. The vehicle has only done 64,500 miles, it is a 3.5 automatic (petrol).
My question is this - before i can turn the key in the ignition i have to press a button that allows the rear suspension to lift up from its lowered position - when this process is complete a series of three lights go from amber to green on the dash which signals that it is OK to turn key in the ignition. Also, i have found that until the back of the ambulance has risen up i am unable to put the vehicle into reverse.

What i would like to know is why it makes a lot of noise, like a loud battery charge sound of noise, also - how long should it take for the back to lift up?

I asked if the rear suspension worked well before buying the van and was told that everything was fine - it passed an MOT with no problems - my worry is what if anything goes wrong with the rear suspension - how difficult would it be to get it repaired and what would the cost be? as the ambulance is fairly young with low mileage - should i experience any problems??

I've come across several vehicles like this. Its no big
deal if it packs up as the air lines can be changed to leave the air springs
inflated all he time, and use a tyre inflator at a garage to inflate them. Then
its a matter of leaving them at that height. Some of the wiring may need to be
changed to take care of the interlocks that prevent the engine
starting.
I have looked through your catalogue and the one that looks closest to my needs is the Geo - Plus Model MLP01139

It will be used to pump fresh water to a storage tank some 4 meters above the water level but the source water is intermittent so the pump must prime itself when needed. The detection of water being present in order to be able t pump is done electronically so the pump would NOT run unless water was present and available.

Will this pump self prime?

Your advice please...

the inline pump out side your tank, but below the head of water.

<theme>I'm looking to source a splitcharge diode and am looking at your MLE00068. its for a pal who is installing a 110amp leisure battery in a self conversion volkswagon T4 would that be the best one . it will power only a water pump and a couple of lights. Oh and does the installation instructions come with it or is it as simple as the diagram makes it look.(I'm not all that good with electrics)look forward to hearing from you, we will purchase on your recommendation,
</theme>

I think you may be able to use a smaller diode.
Basically their size is based on the maximum power of the alternator, rather
than the battery capacity. Once you have correctly sized up your diode, you can
add any amount of batteries. The vehicle handbook may give the alternator output
in Amps, if not, let me know more details of the vehicle (year, engine size
etc.) and I may be able to look it up for you.

A very basic way to think of the diode and
alternator size, is to relate them to water. Lets assume a water spring is the
alternator which produces 100 gallons an hour (or 100 amps per hour), so lets
assume there is a tap controlling the flow of water from the spring to a tank,
this represents the diode. Basically the tap needs to be capable of handling the
total water flow from the spring to the tank, otherwise you'll encounter
problems. The tank is capable of taking 100 gallons per hour, however if you
installed a tap which is too small, this would restrict the flow. In the case of
a diode, it would over heat with being over worked, then fail.

The diodes do come with a drawing, however the
terminals are marked with something to the effect of Bat 1, Bat 2, Alt 1.

<theme>My main concern at this time of year is how to reduce/eliminate condensation when on site.

Re internal and external thermal blinds for motorhome cabs - Is there a generally held opinion as to which is preferable?

What are the pros and cons of each type of thermal blind?

How beneficial are small dehumidifiers?
</theme>

Humidity in motorhomes is a problem. If trying to limit the condensation on
your windows the external blinds work the best. The down side of this is where
to store the blind if its been raining. Most people choose the shower. On a
personal basis I prefer the internal blinds as it gives the option to partly
open them to view out side. Plus when its raining I can take the blinds down and
drive off without having to leave the van and get wet.

Dehumidifiers are a very good option to remove moisture from the van,
however I'm unable to give comment of the effectiveness on each type as my
experience is only with bigger units. I think at the end of the day, any sort
of moisture removal system is a good move.

For pumps, you first need to look at the following link as all of these are
suitable to drip in through the lid of most water containers.

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=immersion+pump&x=8&y=8

The above pumps need taps with switches to operate the pump when the tap is
turned on, so you need to look at the following taps.

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=tap+micro&x=0&y=0

The above combination is a non-pressurised system and the cheapest. However
if your looking at a pressurised system, you need to look at the pumps on this
page made by Fiamma, Posiflo and Shurflo

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/pumps-c-23.html

With the above, you can then use any tap from this page

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/taps-c-57.html

Obviously all the above pumps are 12volt and can run off any car battery or
similar.

Sinks can be found here

http://www.marcleleisure.co.uk/store/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=sink&x=0&y=0

If your wishing to go down the road of hot water, you'll need to mount the
boiler somewhere with a flue out the top. We offer these instantaneous water
heaters (requires a pressurised water system)

Product: Drinking water

Flow: 1.5 litres per minute
The flow rate of the pump your looking for is exceptionally slow, yet the head is quite high. I think you'll need to use a diaphragm pump which is capable of a high pressure to cope with the head of water, then add a by-pass valve to decrease the flow rate. Not knowing what your using the pump for, its difficult to advise any further as you may need to use an accumulator to smooth out the flow.

<theme>We are very interested in purchasing a left hand seat swivel for our iveco daily 35 S 14 HPT 2006 autocruise Pinto motor caravan but would like advice as to would the swivels you provide be suitable for the seats fitted to our van. They are the Isringhausen type seats similar to the seats fitted in lorries that spring up and down to smooth out the ride as you travel over poor road surfaces. Hope you can help us with this as we realy would like to fit a swivel.</theme>

Initially thinking i should change the thin plastic tubing and then looked at the bellows, and the schrader valves, where would i purchase these items?
Also if the leaking is from the bellows where will i find any identifying features to get replacements.

With regards to weights, the air springs will restore the ride height of
your vehicle, howerver they won't on their own actually enable you to carry more
weight than is stamped on your VIN plate. So its advisable to weigh your vehicle
with the bike mounted, and compare the actual weights with the VIN plates. I
suspect the actual weights will exceed the plated weights, so you'll need to
apply for replating to a higher carrying capacity, of which the fitting of the
air springs will help your application.
